What is SEO and why does my website need it?
Lets face it, your potential site visitors will most likely use a search engine such as Google or Yahoo for a particular product or service. Based on the entered keywords, the search engine will return a list of links to pages that will be deemed relevant to the user. A few facts:
- A person will always read the search results from top to bottom
- They will always click on the first link on the list of results.
- They will mostly click only on the first few search results until they find what they're looking for, on the first few pages of the result index.
- They never look at the rest of the search results beyond the first few pages, unless its a very short list. People just don't have the time to look at all the results.
- If they aren't satisfied with the results, they may narrow down the search by entering more specific keywords (ex. entering "web designers Chicago IL" instead of just "web designers").
Getting the link to your website on the first results page gives you an enormous advantage against your competitors, as well as giving more web users the opportunity to view your website and your products which will ultimately translate to more sales.
